My New World of Small

Chery Cratty's paintings create a new world of small.

Greetings and welcome to my new World of Small.
It’s small, as in shrunk down, as the world has shrunk around many of us.
For me, that means no more traveling, instead staying home in Tennessee and caring for my dear brother George, who now has dementia. It means living in a Small World.

But my Small World is filled with Tiny Vistas that elicit memories of woods and water, open roads and great vistas – each in a space smaller than a business card.

My years spent creating tiny bonsai and then larger pulp paintings aided me as I honed old skills and perfected new ones, bringing about the next level in my artistic journey, the Tiny Vistas.

I invite you to enter into my World of Small at cherycratty.com and view these Tiny Vistas. They can be wonderful reminders of places you’d like to be, even if you’re stuck in the office, or similarly stuck at home. They sit quietly on a little easel on a desk, or hang in a tiny space nearby on the wall, bringing you nature, in miniature. Take a peek and see which painting calls to you to enjoy the view on your own desk or wall.

As a THANK YOU for your time, I am offering you a gift coupon, good through the end of 2022. This coupon gives you a free frame discount (a $20.00 value) when you choose the “painting with frame and easel” option. Just use the coupon code “freeframe” on the checkout page.

Baby’s First Steps – Tiny Vistas Out in Public

Tiny Vistas miniature paintings (my baby :)) stepped out into the public this weekend at the Off The Beaten Path Studio Tour Stop #7 in Liberty, TN.
It was really exciting (and honestly, a bit nerve-racking) to put them on display for the first time, and see and hear the responses.

“They look so real – I want to just step into one!”
“These are so tiny and so detailed!”
“Why aren’t you blind?!”
“I could just get lost in one of these.”

These were the kinds of affirmations that confirmed to me I’m on the right path. Plus, I sold a few, and that’s ALWAYS affirming!
Since this baby should be running in no time, I’d better get back to painting more. These Tiny Vistas are available NOW at cherycratty.com, and there are more from which to choose. Step on in.

Chery's show display.

Into the Mist

A bright sunny morning drive leads toward an unknown destination beyond the mist.
Tucked at the edge of the Appalachian mountains in Georgia, I saw sights like this often. The cool morning mist hinted at sights unseen. It aroused my curiosity and tempted me to leave work. I didn’t, but the temptation was there!

A bright sunny morning drive leads toward an unknown destination beyond the mist.

With this image, I started with 2 main colors. Then I tweaked and pushed, adding and subtracting along the way. Using both casein and watercolor allow for this degree of manipulation.

When I was satisfied, I added a thin 18K gold border. Then the piece was gently waxed to protect the surface.
I hope you get a chance to take an early morning drive like this.

If you can’t right now, it’s okay.
Just grab this painting from my website. Stand it close on your desk and let it take you there.
If it’s already gone, browse a bit and find another that calls to you.

What do I do with a miniature painting?

Ask my Grandfather where someplace is, and the answer would be - “Just up the road a piece”.

Sitting at my desk dealing with computer work makes me wish I was outside. It’s sunny. I’m thinking of that old road I was on last summer where the light filtering through the tree leaves was so magical. I wish I were there right now.

Sadly, I’m here – at my desk. Sigh.

BUT – I look over to my left and see a Tiny Vistas painting propped up on its little easel. It’s full of the light and promise of the gentle cool breeze I remember from last summer.

As I gaze at it, I’m drawn in, as if I were there again. Lingering for a moment, I can almost feel the gravel of the road, hear the leaves moving in the dappled light.

And then I blink, and return to my current space, here at my desk, but refreshed with the memory of that time and place.

Refresh yourself with your own Tiny Vista. Available NOW at cherycratty.com . If it’s gone, there are more from which to choose.
